Corn is King... Where are the Revolutionaries?
So... I've been doing a lot of blog reading, as you do. One site has been Mark's Daily Apple. Mark is a big avocate of what he calls the Primal Blueprint diet. ie. Eat like our hunting/gathering cavemen forebears. And a big part of this is GRAINS ARE BAD. So ok. (He goes on in a lot more details, but you can read it for  yourself if you're interested.

Through that site, I came to know of a documentary about the corn industry called King Corn
. So I was browsing that little doco's info page on PBS (which has an amusing maze game that kept me occupied at work for a few minutes at work today). On there I read information that I am sure I have read before, but you know how they say it takes hearing/reading something 7 times before an idea or thought gets into one's head.

The little tidbit that, coupled with my recent blog reading, has really gotten me thinking is... meat from corn-fed cows are fattier than meat from grass-fed cows. (On a side note, why is corn fed chicken considered a selling point then?) If that's the case.... is meat from corn-fed humans fattier than grass fed humans?

And my brain went, ahh, see, this is what that Mark guy is on about.

Yes, it's all rather complicated, and I've yet to touch on the environmental impact of cattle farming. Another source of great contention (I've had to shut up a few times when talking to Luke...!)

And secondly, apparently apple shaped people so be careful with carbs... So I am looking at the amount and porportion of carbs I eat with much more interest on Fitday.com.

*Edit

We don't seem to feed corn to our cattle at the same rate as the americans. Which gels with the conversation I just had with Luke. And HFCS isn't used as much here. It seems our obesity problem is more traditional sugar related.... so this must mean our coke tastes different to American coke too?
